Game Development - Hopscotch Level 1

Recommended age: 6 - 8

Hopscotch is an iPad app made for teaching young students to create fun mobile games. Students will use their creativity to tell a story, draw the characters and the game environment, and program the game play by connecting blocks of commands together. Our instructor will guide students through learning the various blocks of commands and problem-solving through challenges. Throughout the course, students will show-and-tell the progress of their game to the class to hone their communication and public speaking skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to recreate popular games like Geometry Dash or Flappy Bird, or create their own game!

Teaching Style & Approach

Our approach is to develop well-rounded students. For younger students, the best way to learn is through fun, hands-on activities each class. At each level, students will get a balance of:

• Art & Science: combining creativity with logical reasoning
• Soft & Technical Skills: practicing a variety of skills including coding, problem solving, abstract thinking, communication and collaboration
• Individual & Group Activities: working through challenges individually and as a group
• Digital & Physical Activities: reinforcing concepts using digital and real-world activities
