Roblox is an online gaming platform that brings together millions of players and game developers through immersive 3D experiences. But we are not here to play games. We are here to CREATE GAMES! Our Roblox curriculum teaches students how to create their Roblox game from the ground up by drawing game elements and programming them to interact with the world. Programming in Roblox uses Lua - a scripting language built for games, web applications and image processing. Students will build gradually more sophisticated games as they progress through our curriculum.

This is an introductory course to creating your first game with Roblox Studio. Starting from a blank canvas, students will build their own Mario Galaxy game by adding pathways and obstacles to the map, personalize the map by adding colours and movements to the obstacles, and unlocking doors by finding the right key. Students will get a sense of how to program a basic game from the ground up. This will be the base as we build towards the Mario Galaxy game by the end of level 3.

Recommended age: 9+
Building upon the base game from level 1, students will be adding enemies to their Mario Galaxy game and keeping track of the health of the character as they fight enemies. Students can let their imagination go wild as they introduce these enemies into the game - how they appear, how they hurt the character, how they are killed, and how they react to the environment. By the end of this level, realistic-looking enemies and obstacles will interact with the character to form the basic game mechanics and design!

What’s a game without a powerful final boss to beat? Students will learn that in this level 3 course! But the character will need weapons and tools to beat the boss and its underlings. Students will learn that too! Along the way, students will also be adding power ups to replenish the character’s health to help get through the dangerous journey of the game. At this point, students will have built a fun and challenging Mario Galaxy game, with enough weapons and tools for the character to conquer all of the obstacles thrown at them!
