Coding - Python Level 3

Recommended age: 9+

Python is a multi-purpose programming language that is used by companies big and small. Notable companies that use Python include Instagram, Google, and Pinterest. Python is a simple language to learn because it doesn’t have too many rules, yet it’s powerful enough that most of today’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning programs are written in!

Learning Outcomes

Building on the Python Level 2 course, students will learn to nest "if statements", allowing programs to narrow down different sets of decisions quickly. Students will be introduced to boolean variables, which is the way you ask the computer yes/no questions. The result is that students now have all the tools to write programs that can quickly decide what to do from a large set of choices. Finally, students will be introduced to loops, which is how programs can do something repeatedly.

By the end of the course, students will create another game that applies all of the knowledge learnt up to now. On top of programming skills, students will gain soft skills from explaining their solution to peers, thereby understanding how others are solving the same problem in different ways.

Teaching Style & Approach

Our approach is to develop well-rounded students. For younger students, the best way to learn is through fun, hands-on activities each class. At each level, students will get a balance of:

  • Art & Science: combining creativity with logical reasoning
  • Soft & Technical Skills: practicing a variety of skills including coding, problem solving, abstract thinking, communication and collaboration
  • Individual & Group Activities: working through challenges individually and as a group
  • Digital & Physical Activities: reinforcing concepts using digital and real-world activities
